KIWI Origins and Varieties

Actinidias (Actinidia Chinensis) are plants native to the Far East (they grow wild in China), there are several varieties of Actinidias,
The variety best suited for Tunisia's climate is "Actinidia Deliciosa (or Chinensis)".
It likes heat and does not tolerate frost or little but it requires abundant watering.
Kiwis most often have yellow or green flesh when ripe (Montefiori, 2005). These colors are due to varying concentrations of carotenoids and chlorophylls (Montefiori, 2005).

Planting and Growing the KIWI

You can plant kiwi feet all year long as long as it is not too hot or cold (freezes).

You should know that Actinidia is a climbing plant, so you need to provide a solid support (trellis or other), it is a very hardy and robust plant which has a fast growth (sometimes more than 1 meter per week in ideal conditions), it also needs space and it does not require much maintenance, and it is very resistant to diseases, insects and other infections.

You will need at least one male plant to fertilize the female plant (s) next to it and have fruit, for good production you need to provide a male plant for one to four female plants, otherwise you have to look for an auto variety -fertile. The plants are sold in pots or bare roots.

On an Actinidia plant, yellowing of the foliage generally indicates an iron deficiency, so iron chelate must be added to the water before watering.
