Citrus exports from Tunisia in 2018-2019
According to data released by the Joint Professional Fruit Center, the citrus harvest for the 2018-2019 season is estimated at 440 thousand tonnes compared to 346 thousand tonnes for the last season, up 27%.
Production of Maltese oranges improved by 42% to 135 thousand tonnes. It was thanks to the record precipitation in August and September that this performance was achieved. The same goes for clementine production, which rose 29% to more than 75,000 tonnes compared to almost 59,000 tonnes last year. The same goes for Thomson orange production, which rose 27% to 110 thousand tonnes.
Tunisia exported 11,573 tonnes of citrus fruits, between October 2018
and on March 12, 2019, against 10.206 tonnes during the same period last season. Estimates of the export of the season would be around 20 thousand Tons.
Over 90% of the quantities exported are of the “Maltese” variety, the main destination of which is the French market.
The exported quantities of the “clementine” variety increased, in this 2018-2019 season, to was 368 Tons against 310 Tons during the same period of the previous season.

Separate harvesting and storage facilities.
Conversion period to be respected (two years before sowing annual crops, three years before harvesting perennial crops).
