Beet Reduces Blood Pressure

Research suggests that this antihypertensive effect was due to the high nitrate levels in beet juice. They recommend consuming vegetables rich in nitrate as an effective and inexpensive way to help treat high blood pressure.

Beet recommended for diabetics

Beets contain an antioxidant called alpha lipoic acid which can help lower glucose levels and increase insulin sensitivity.

A review of studies conducted in 2019 examined the effects of alpha lipoic acid on the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy. Researchers have found that oral and intravenous administration of alpha lipoic acid supplements causes symptoms of peripheral and autonomic neuropathy to decrease in people with diabetes.

Against Cancer

A review of studies done in 2019 found that certain compounds in beets can disrupt cancerous mutations in cells. These compounds include betalains, which are pigments that give beets their red and yellow color.

Although more research is needed before health professionals can recommend beets as an alternative to other standard methods of reducing the risk of cancer, they may have some function in reducing the risk of this disease.
